GVB gets new driver's seats

At the end of 2020, Amsterdam's city transport company GVB awarded EBLO the contract for the supply and maintenance of driver's seats for buses and railways. We supplied and fitted 437 new driver's seats. In addition, we deployed our online management tool for (periodic) maintenance to bring and keep 900 existing GVB driver's seats in good condition.

Important for the GVB was that the seats meet all legal requirements, including fire-resistant upholstery according to EN45545 (rail). Especially for the GVB, we made a fire-resistant fabric with the logo of the company incorporated in it. In addition, we modified the swivel plate of all 437 new seats so that they could be mounted at the same height in trams as the old seats.

The assembly of the seats took place in the GVB depot, where the daily maintenance of all trams takes place and trams are stored. It was quite a task that was carried out with great care. Each seat is provided with an operating card so that the driver can adjust his or her seat correctly prior to the shift.

QR code driver's seat GVB

A sticker with a QR code can also be found on the driver's seats. With this, each individual seat is digitally registered in our Fleet Maintenance App. If seats need (periodic) maintenance, this is automatically indicated in the App. This makes the maintenance and repair of seats in a fleet a lot easier! EBLO takes care of the maintenance of these seats for the next 15 years.

Or, as Edwin van Zetten, Tram Projects Unit Manager at GVB aptly puts it: "A big advantage over the old seats is the preventive inspection and maintenance contract. Previously, we only repaired a seat if there was a report that something was broken. Now we also do preventive maintenance and seats are replaced after x-number of months. So from now on you will always be driving on a good seat. This prevents health problems such as back pain."

The old driver's seats of the GVB were taken in by EBLO and are disassembled in our workshop. All parts are recycled where possible.

After the seats were mounted in the trams, our key account manager Marcel Kool gave the drivers of the GVB seating advice and told them more about the correct adjustment of the seat. EBLO also provided technical support and showed how a seat cushion needs to be replaced. Everything for optimal sitting!
