Custom seat for CAT excavator by Boskalis Environmental
Boskalis Environmental, a leading company in large-scale soil treatment, remediation, dredging spoil, and mineral waste processing, faced a challenge with the operator seat in their Caterpillar (CAT) excavator. Multiple operators experienced seating discomfort, which negatively impacted both their comfort and productivity. To address these seating issues, Boskalis enlisted the expertise of EBLO.

The seating solution for the Sears excavator seat
Boskalis contacted EBLO and discussed the seating complaints of the operators. Soon, EBLO came up with the ideal solution for their Sears excavator seat: The Sears excavator seat in the CAT excavator was mounted in a fixed position, which meant that the seat could not be moved forward or backward. Operators with long and short legs were unable to properly adjust the seat, making it difficult for them to reach the pedals needed to operate the CAT excavator. The solution: to add seat depth and seat tilt adjustment to the existing seat.
Appointment on location
After discussing the seating solution, an on-site appointment was scheduled. EBLO’s technical service regularly performs installations, repairs, or modifications to seats on-site (in the Netherlands or Belgium). In this case, our technical team traveled to Zeeland, the Netherlands, to adjust the excavator seat.

Flexible in a tight cabin space
To add the seat depth and seat tilt adjustments to the Sears excavator seat, an additional set of adjustment rails was required. These were expertly placed between two sliding seat plates. Before this set could be safely and securely mounted, holes were drilled into the existing seat plates. Given the limited installation space in the CAT excavator's cabin, our team’s flexibility was put to the test.

Minimal downtime for the excavator
Despite the limited installation space, our technical service successfully installed the additional set of adjustment rails. By carrying out the work directly on-site in Zeeland, the Netherlands, the downtime of the excavator was minimized, allowing the operators to quickly resume their work. The operators of the excavator are pleased with their modified seat and can now perform their tasks comfortably and pain-free.
EBLO wishes the excavator operators productive working hours in their modified seats.
A word:
"Excavator operators are exposed to shocks and vibrations throughout the workday. A good excavator seat is therefore important not only to ensure proper comfort but also to prevent seating discomfort. The Sears excavator seat in the CAT excavator was used by multiple operators with different body types, which meant the seat had to be adapted to meet everyone's needs. Thanks to the addition of seat depth and seat tilt adjustments, the seat is now easily adjustable, enabling the operators to work comfortably and efficiently."
