Problems with sitting? Your seat is often too small!

EBLO receives enquiries and visits almost every day from people who have complaints about their seats and are experiencing back pain. Often, they don’t know what’s causing it. In many cases, it turns out that the seat dimensions aren’t suited to the driver. We’ll tell you what you can do about it!

A seat that’s too small

A seat that’s too small is best compared to a shoe that’s too small. If you’re a size 45, size 39 shoes won’t be comfortable either. You can add padding, remove the insole or insert a new one, but they’ll never feel right. It’s no different with a seat.

the seat of the seat is too short

If you’re taller than average, or simply have long legs, most standard seats are simply too small:

  • The seat cushion is far too short and offers no support;

  • The backrest is too short, meaning that a person’s head and shoulders literally stick out above it;

  • Where a lumbar support is fitted, it also causes back problems, as it is at the wrong height for taller drivers.

Seats that are too small do not provide the necessary support. This leads to back or sitting problems, as the driver compensates by adopting a posture that is not ideal. This makes the problems worse and, in the long term, can even lead to absenteeism or sick leave.

Body type determines seat settings

When choosing the right seat, we take into account factors such as the driver’s height. But even more important is their build:

  • Does the driver have a long torso?

  • Does the driver have long legs?

  • Do they have a hollow back?

  • Or does the driver actually have a rounded lower back?

When assessing the issues and providing the right seating solution, dimensions are therefore of the utmost importance. It starts with choosing the correct seat and backrest size for the driver. We stock various seat brands that are available in different lengths. For example, a Recaro car seat is available in sizes S and M. For taller drivers, we also have the Recaro bucket seat available in size L. In addition, we look at customisation, such as the width, thickness and firmness of the seat. We can adjust all of these to the driver’s body for a perfect fit!

Even safer in the car with the right seat

From a safety perspective, it is also important that the backrest and headrest of the car seat are the correct length. In the event of a collision, the head must be supported by a headrest, and correct adjustment is of vital importance. Unfortunately, whiplash injuries are still common because the seat and headrest were not adjusted correctly or were inadequate.

A service life of at least 10 years

A custom-fitted seat will easily last 10 years and can be transferred to another vehicle. The many benefits of a good, well-fitting seat are therefore well worth the extra investment of a few pence per kilometre.
