EBLO takes next step in sustainability with solar power generation
In a world where we (have to) live more environmentally consciously, EBLO is going to do its bit by installing solar panels and making use of solar energy.
Thanks to our plans, we were approached by Stichting Drechtse Stromen. Drechtse Stromen wants to offer everyone in the Drechtsteden the opportunity to generate their own solar energy with solar panels on someone else's roof; using the government's zip code box scheme. The roof of EBLO is so big that it is extremely suitable for this. We are now going to make our roof available for others to place their solar panels on our roof. The roof of EBLO has an area of over 9,000 m². This offers space for approximately 1,400 solar panels. Approximately 700 panels will be used to generate energy for EBLO itself. The remaining 700 panels are available to residents in the postcoderoos. Households and small businesses (small consumers) in adjacent zip code areas around EBLO can participate in the postcoderoo project. Are you interested in this? Then go to www.drechtsestromen.net/zon; you can also register there as an interested party.
Sustainable plans
The sustainable plans that EBLO is going to implement are so interesting that we were asked to share the plans with various other companies from business park De Geer in Zwijndrecht. All entrepreneurs from business park De Geer were invited to attend a presentation at EBLO about the future plans that EBLO has with regard to sustainable business. Representatives of about 15 companies were present along with several board members of the Zwijndrecht Municipality and Drechtse Stromen Foundation. After a delicious breakfast everyone was informed about the future plans. The response was enthusiastic.
National target
The Netherlands is lagging behind the rest of Europe in terms of sustainability. Fortunately, energy consumption has been declining for several years. The ultimate goal is for all of us to live energy-neutral lives. This is far from realistic for the coming years, but it is a nice goal for the future. The Netherlands aims to generate 14% of its energy sustainably within a few years. Currently, this is only 6%. So there is still plenty of work to be done. This applies to the government but also to businesses and individuals. If everyone contributes now, future generations will have one less thing to worry about. EBLO has already started. Who will follow?
