EBLO supplies new crane seat for floating crane
OVET dry bulk terminal is a transhipment company specialising in the storage, handling and processing of dry bulk goods. Using four floating cranes, they can achieve an impressive unloading capacity of 80,000 tonnes per day. When the cabin of one of the four Lemniscate floating cranes needed an overhaul and because they were not satisfied with the current crane seating arrangement, they contacted EBLO to jointly find a solution to their seating problem.

Flexible and stable seating solution
The Lemniscate floating cranes are operated daily by different operators, each with their own specific seating requirements. Before EBLO could offer a suitable seating solution, it was essential to carefully identify these diverse needs. The final solution not only had to meet the operators' seating requirements, but also had to be particularly stable due to the 35-metre working position of the cabin and the violent pendulum movements during operations.
)
Challenge: A new crane seat for a narrow cabin
The crane cabin is relatively narrow, which presented additional challenges when choosing a new crane seat. The wish was to mount the new crane seat on a long and stable floor rail, so that the operator could easily sit down and then slide the seat forward by more than one metre, without having to exert too much effort.
)
Showroom: the perfect seating solution
In our showroom, the specific requirements and seating wishes were discussed in detail with several machinists. The final choice was a GESSMANN KST19 set-up with customised seat and equipped with adjustable V-seat cushion. This seat cushion aligns perfectly with the vision shaft in the cab, giving the operator optimal visibility of the work far below.
Besides special V-seat cushion, the seat is equipped with ergonomic armrests with joystick console. The seat's armrests are swivelling and can be rotated to above the thighs, providing maximum support for the operator's arms and eliminating arm strain.

Thorough overhaul for a productive future
To install the new crane seat, the entire cabin was removed from under the crane for a complete overhaul. This allowed the technical staff from OVET, TES and EBLO to carry out the work on the ground, making the installation considerably easier. This multi-adjustable crane seat provides a perfect ergonomic seating solution for all users, and this allows a variety of shifts to work well and productively.

A word:
‘While the standard seats installed in cranes or machines comply with legal standards and requirements, they often require extra attention to best suit the individual seating needs of each operator. In this project, too, the standard seat turned out not to meet all seating requirements. We carefully adjusted the seat to the operator's physique to optimise seating comfort and ergonomics. We also made sure that the operator is fully aware of how best to adjust the seat. This not only increases seating comfort, but also enables the operator to independently adjust the seat correctly when needed.’
